About Shower Curtain Liners

A fabric shower curtain should always be used in conjunction with a liner. The liner is actually the functional part of the set-up, the shower curtain is the decorative aspect. What you have is a layering effect, this layering saves the fabric from the being constantly wet. The liner is used to shied not only the shower curtain but the rest of the room from the splashes and water sprays that comes with using the shower.

The shower curtain liner is almost always made from a vinyl or thick plastic. The liner when bought as a separate item is not that expensive. You can change the fabric shower curtain without changing the liner.

The liner will get the brunt of the dirt, grim and soap scum. The fabric will stay clean a lot longer and looking great. The liners are usually an opaque or neutral color and this too is a reason for its lower price. They are easy to manufacture. They are not made with any designs or other embellishments.

Some people use the liners and do not bother with the shower curtain themselves. They see it as an unnecessary expense whose only purpose is to look chic. This is true, but if you are more into designing a comfortable space then you will want to choose a shower curtain to enhance the living space along with its liner.

The shower curtain itself can be made of a variety of materials including cotton. Cotton looks and feels good and they hang beautifully. The one drawback with cotton is its absorbency. Even if the liner lets only minimal water through, the cotton shower curtain will absorb the moisture from the steam in the room. These are more apt to have mold and mildew issues than shower curtains made from other types of fabric.

Knowing this most homeowners buy the polyester shower curtains that have also been with a compound to make them more resistant to water absorption. You can even use these without the liners and still keep most of the water in the shower. Polyester can be in different colors. You can find polyester shower curtains in solids, patterns and textures.

When it comes to purchasing shower curtains and liners you have to measure the size of the bath. This will enable you to get the right length and width to fit perfectly. If you get one that is too short it will defeat the purpose of having itin there in the first place.

If you have a bath that is a bit longer than normal you may be able to use the extra long. This is the 70inch wide and 84inch long shower curtain. Sometime you get those in between sizes and with this one you can have it altered to fit. A good seamstress can make your fabric shower curtains to order and all you need to do then is match the liner to the colors you have chosen.

Decorating the bath begins with the shower curtain and liner. Matching the accessories to this setup will be a fun and exciting project.
